Sunday Social: Week 8

Sunday Social

Hi Lovelies!
After a brief hiatus, I'm BACK!!!

So straight to the questions:

1) What is your dream job?

I'd have to say probably what I do now. I really enjoy what I do. I get to work with clothes, and learn more about the corporate retail industry and the company I work for is really great. I feel so blessed. Its amazing how my life kind of came full circle back to a career in Fashion Merchandising. I still fantasise about being a writer for a magazine one day though.

2) If you won the lottery and didn't need to work for money, what would you do with your time?

Well first I would pay off all my student loans!

Then I would travel. A lot. I'd go all over the world and take Boomer with me when she wasn't in school. Ok so basically I would only travel on school breaks. So....while she was in school, I'd buy a house and decorate the shiz out of it. I'd be like Pinterest in real life.

3) When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up?

A pop singer. Or a fashion designer.

Can't sew for crap, but I can sing!

4) What piece of career advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?

Well even though I'm a newbie in my field as well...the best piece of advice I could give is don't expect to be a merchant right out of the gate. I see a lot of girls here in Columbus (because several companies are based here), that are graduating and expecting to walk into a merchant. I got my job by accepting a temp position first, and now I'm a merchant coordinator (which is like the assistant to the assistant). I'm cool with it though because I know these are the steps I need to take to get where I want to be. No one starts at the top. Accept for that dude who started Fb.

5) Biggest pet peeves in life/work/blogging?

Life: people who act like they have money and don't, name droppers (because who cares, and a lot of people 'know people' ya know?), selfishness, close minded people

Work: Breaking the copier and walking away, not answering emails, blaming people for something you screwed up,

Blogging: The 'cool kids', twitter beefs (cuz unless you're a rapper its just STUPID, we are grown ups!), never feeling good enough.

6) Biggest fears?

Ever since I watched Poseidon Adventure I've been terrified that I would be stuck in a situation with Boomer where she would have to hold her breath for an extended time....cuz the girl just doesn't get the concept.

Katy's Been Thinking

Hello lovelies!

I've been such a bad blogger this past week. Sorry, I just haven't had much to say. I've been doing a lot of thinking and listening lately. As much as I love to hear myself talk, because let's face it we all do, its important to take that time and have an inner monologue and also to listen to those around us.

I've had so many great conversations with friends lately, and I'm so thankful for all their insights. Some of these people have known me for twenty years, some people for just a few months. But I appreciate their perspective, and their words.

This weekend I road tripped it to Springfield, Ohio, so my mom could see one of her childhood besties. It was cute sitting in the kitchen watching them fix things for dinner after church. It reminded me of my two best girlfriends. We've been friends since we were six years old. My mom and her friend have the same first name, and have been friends for even longer. Through engagements, a divorce, cross country moves, kids, a grandchild, those two amazing women have always had each others back. Friendships like that are rare and should be treasured.

On a sadder note, a friend of mine back in here in C-bus lost two of her friends in an accident this weekend. It was shocking and unexpected as these things often are. That combined with the senseless shooting in Aurora this weekend really puts things into perspective. Its important to live now. To be in your life, in the moment. Tell the people that you love, that you love them today while you still can. Tell people that you appreciate them. Give your kids that last hug they ask for when you drop them off. Give your love that goodnight kiss. It may be your last chance to do so.

When Boomer asked me for another goodnight kiss at least four times before bed, I gave her every single one she asked for.

Dear Boomer : Vol2

*Hey Lovelies, this post is one I wrote but never published....hope you enjoy.*

Dear Boomer-

It's been awhile since I wrote you a note here on the blog. Even though you're always telling me to take pictures of what you're doing and 'put it on the blog ma!'

Today you graduated from Kindergarten. In a lot of ways Mommy can't even process that. I know that you're almost six, but I just can't seem to figure out where the last six years went.

On Mother's Day I was looking through your Mimi's camera and came across pictures of your third birthday. I pretty much lost it and did the ugly cry right there at the table in Cantina Laredo. You thought I was nuts, which is not unusual for us, and I tried to explain to everyone why I was blubbering. See in those pictures you still had baby fat in your cheeks, and your hair was a little shorter, your body a little rounder. Now you're a lot like me at your age. All lines and angles. And that's fine....I knew you would get bigger the first time I held you. Its just hard for mommy.

Picture of a picture *sigh* 9mos old.

You're so smart. You read all the time now and I love it. We've been reading Charlotte's Web. Its the same copy my mommy gave me when I was little like you. I want you to love books as much as I did. But I'm going to hide my copy of 50 Shades of Gray. Lord knows that woman wrote it at a fifth grade reading level and I'm not taking ANY chances with you.

You are funny and compassionate. You are sweet, and loving. It was nice to see so many of your friends at school today sad to see you go. Mommy may be a little shallow, but its nice to know other people like you as much as I do.

One thing I LOVE about you and I hope doesn't change one iota as you get bigger, is your amazing sense of self. You just are who ya are. And you know what kiddo? That is so cool.

I love you.

Ma

(I seriously don't know why you've started calling me that, and I've tried to course correct, but now I'm just going with it.)

Ohio Blogger Meet Up

Hi Lovelies!

First a BIG HELLO to my new followers. Where did ya'll come from? Welcome, welcome!

Ok so Sunday I went to the  Ohio Blogger Meet Up organized by this lovely lady:

I got to meet some very fabulous ladies from all around Ohio. I'd been blog stalking several of them leading up to the actual event. Its always so fun to meet people IRL that you feel you already 'know'. This is my second time going to a meet up and explaining to people who don't blog, once again, that yes, I was meeting people I only know from the Internet.

Leigh Anne, Shane
Lindsay, and Me

All the girls!!!!

Now I didn't get to chat that much with the ladies at the other end of the table, but that is something to look forward to for next time.

You can't tell it, but in the right corner of the last picture there is a sign that says Lush Coming Soon. Do ya'll know how much this warms my heart? I work on the same side of town as Easton, and previously our only Lush location in Columbus was ALL THE WAY IN DUBLIN....that's kind of a haul. I'm so excited I can hardly wait.

Sunday Social Week 5

Sunday Social

Alright everyone its time for another Sunday Social!

Favorite TV show of the past?

There are so many....The O.C. (the first season) One Tree Hill, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman (yeah I was a dork) I really loved ER, that was one show my mom and used to watch together. She used to not allow me, but when she realized I was sneaking episodes in the basement, she finally relented and allowed me to watch with her in her room.

Favorite current TV show?

I don't really watch current TV that much. Netflix came into my life late last year....and now I watch that pretty much all the time. No commercials, so its pretty awesome. I still love my Grey's Anatomy though. My friends make fun of me for it but clearly I love me some medical melodrama.

Reality Show I'd NEVER do?

Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, or any other 'date a not so famous anymore celebrity' reality show. Anything on VH1 essentially. I love watching them, because it's like a train wreck that you can't look away from. I would never be on one though.

Reality Show you'd LOVE to do?

I'd have to say Amazing Race. I think it would be really fun to push yourself like that and see a little bit of the world.

TV Personality/Character you feel is most like you?

Ummm....I'm not sure that I've ever really identified with a TV character. I told my mom once that I did with Scarlet O'Hara and let's just say her response scared me off it.

TV character you'd want to date?

Sam from Private Practice. Just so I could see Taye Diggs smile. Its so pretty.
